Ginetta Champions in BGT Seat
Double-Ginetta Champions from the past four years will drive for IMS Motorsport in the British GT Championship this season in a Ginetta G50.
The 2007 / 2005 Texaco Havoline Ginetta Champion Matt Nicoll-Jones and 2006 / 2004 Champion Stewart Linn will participate in the GT4 category of the Sportscar Championship. The driver pairing will share the Ginetta G50 GT4 car in all 12 one-hour races and the 2 two-hour races. The endurance-style race format includes a mandatory driver change during the race.

IMS Motorsport is backed by IMS Consulting CEO Scott Wilson, with Peter Smith as Team Principle. IMS Consulting are the UK’s largest hedge fund compliance consultancy company.
Richard Hollebon and his Richmond Racing crew will be employed to provide the Team infrastructure.
“We were setting this project up over the summer” explained Smith “and in looking for a pool of drivers I know with talent and relevant to sportscars, dipped into the G20s as a starting point, drew up a shortlist and these two names were right at the top!”
“Bit by bit it came together and we’re really very pleased.”
It’s likely to be a one year attack, with Wilson having plans moving forward in GT racing, but he and Smith both see the British GT GT4 Championship with the Ginetta G50 as a good starting point.
“Obviously, Matt and I have known each other for a long time” said Linn. “We’ve raced together on many an occasion and know each other’s driving style. We’re pretty similar so that will be good when it comes to car setup.
“It will certainly be different racing with Matt as opposed to against him – but I’m looking forward to it! It’s just as well we weren’t fierce rivals in the paddock!” added Linn.
IMS Motorsport was formed in 2003 by Peter Smith then a Director of IMS Consulting to drive a self prepared Ginetta G20 in the Hill House Hammond Championship. After two part seasons in the Ginetta Cup Peter raced in the 750mc Roadsports Championship finishing 4th overall and 3rd in class in 2006 despite various medical issues. In 2007 Peter had a kidney transplant and managed just a couple of races in the SR> Challenge.
Richmond Racing had previously prepared Smith’s G20 car, and over the past two years have fielded a GTC Ginetta G20 Coupe with success in the British GT Championship.
A full Mayfair launch of the team is planned in the near future – details of which will follow.
