Ginetta Juniors' Season Opens
New Season for Ginetta Juniors opens at Brands Hatch this weekend.
Welcome to a new season of Ginetta Junior racing and the most recent addition to the prestigious British Touring Cars support package.
Encouragement by the British Touring Car Championship arena for up-and-coming racing talent continues with the departure of the Formula BMW Championship and the arrival of 14 – 17 year olds in the Ginetta Junior Championship.
The Championship enters its fourth year; training potential GT and Touring Car drivers alike, growing in popularity year on year and has already produced star drivers of the future.
Do you remember Henry Surtees and Jordan Williams from last year’s Formula BMW grid? They began their car racing careers in Ginetta Juniors…!
As it’s a learning category, there’s a few people making their Sportscar racing debut this weekend including BRDC Stars of Tomorrow karting scholarship winner Daniel Lloyd (#23) and fellow former ‘Stars’ karter Max McGuire (#70) – who only recently turned 14 years old and will be the youngest driver on the grid.
Some of the more experienced Ginetta Junior drivers return to battle it out including Nick Ponting (#7), Fergus Walkinshaw (#91) Dominic Pettit (#66) and George Richardson (#28) here for their third season racing in the Championship.
Some are not so experienced such as Alice Powell (#15) and Dino Zamparelli (#8) who both joined in the latter half of last year and could be ones to watch.
Yet former Saxmax racers Jake Farndon (#86), Aaron Williamson (#25) and KC Watson (#72) may be flies in the ointment with their previous Sportscar racing experience.
It may be true that the drivers are young, but they still pack a punch in the entertainment stakes! The nature of Ginetta racing is close and exciting – these guys (and four gals!) will deliver just that!
