SILVERSTONE SCORCHES TO THE GREAT & BRITISH! 22nd - 23rd July 2006
The weather may have been overcast for much of the day but the Great and British Dunlop Motorsport Festival certainly raised the temperature around Silverstone as the series reached the halfway stage.
The circuit played host to some of the best racing of the season so far with plenty of incident-packed and fast paced racing in all classes.
Max Henderson and Ian Curley took a win apiece in two very dramatic AVO Ginetta championship races.
Henderson was first to stand on the top step of the podium at the end of race one, he led from start to finish but there was no shortage of challengers for his position as a battle royale developed behind him for second place, Ben Elliott eventually grabbing the position ahead of series leader Stewart Linn.
“Things went really well,” said Henderson. “The only worry was the safety car coming out with three laps to go. I'd built up a big lead and then I was concerned I'd lose it after we bunched up but I managed to get a clean drive away and take the flag.”
Ian Curley then won race two, he’d led on two occasions during the race and then passed race leader Ben Elliott with just over two laps to go to take the victory.
“That was phenomenal”, said Curley. “I made a good start, got a good first lap in and just drove like a demon really. It's great to win. It's something you don't realise you miss until you do it again. I was giggling on the last lap, loved it.”
Julian Barrett put the disappointment of a non-finish in race one to finish second this time ahead Dave Devine. Championship leader Stewart Linn finished fourth to consolidate his position at the top of the standings.
