Classic Ginettas Out Testing At Goodwood

The Ginetta G4R that took fifth in the Fordwater Trophy at last year’s Goodwood Revival meeting was back out on track last weekend (8th March 2008) at Goodwood – back in the hands of racer Richard Dean (right).

Dean took the lightweight 1963 car to its impressive fifth place in it’s debut run at the prestigious invitation-only event last September beating the likes of Lotus, Marcos and Porsche - just like in its hayday.

It’s on-track accompaniment was a recent Ginetta factory acquisition – a rare 1965 Ginetta G10 driven by Charlie Kemp (left).

Originally aimed at the American market, the G10 was launched in 1965 and won in its debut race at Brands Hatch later that year in the hands of Chris Meek, beating the likes of E-type Jaguars.

Only six were made due to the Sports Car Club of America changing their view on its racing category – putting it up against McLarens and Lolas rather than the intended AC Cobras.

FAV 167C has a 4700cc Ford V8 engine punching out approximately 270 bhp capable of 140 mph. It’s currently in road car form, but is going to be race prepared to appear on the Classic Car racing stage.

• There will be a whole host of Classic Ginettas including the G4 and G10 at the two Ginetta Festivals celebrating
50 years of Ginetta Cars in 2008. The first one is on 6th April at Cadwell Park and is open to all!
