Building on our experience with the highly successful KVF3000, Zytek designed an innovative next-generation engine that could be tailored to a wide range of applications. At its launch, the ZB408 was the smallest and lightest 4.0 litre endurance engine ever produced. Today there are several versions already proven, including 3.4 litre and 4.0 litre variants for sportscar racing.

2ZG408 LMP1 Engine
The 2ZG408 is a higher powered version of the highly successful ZG348 LMP2 engine. This engine has been specifically designed for use in the LMP1 category and has been produced using some of the most advanced design and manufacturing technology in the world. It combines theoretical analysis with the practical experience gained over many years of race engine design and development.

This project was initiated in 2005 and commenced racing in the Le Mans Series (LMS) LMP1 class during 2006. Weighing 123kgs in 24-hour endurance specification the engine is one of the smallest and lightest 4-litre endurance engines ever produced. The 2ZG408 made a great impression in its first full season of racing, finishing 3rd overall at the Spa 1000 km race and completing the Le Mans 24-hours race at its first attempt. A new 4.5-litre version is currently under development.

ZG348 LMP2 Engine
Zytek ZG348 engines powered not only the LMP2 class winner at the 2007 Le Mans 24-hours, but also the second place car. It was a dominant performance that underlined the major impact that the ZG348 V8 has made on sportscar racing.

First introduced in 2003, the ZG348 very quickly proved to be an outright winner. At the FIA Sportscar Championship race at Oschersleben, Germany it won from pole position. It was the first time an LMP 675 car had beaten the larger and more powerful LMP 900 contenders. During that first season it also qualified on pole position in the LMP 675 class at Le Mans, and went on to finish second in class.

Fitted into Zytek’s own 04S sportscar in 2005, the ZG348 finished second in the Le Mans Series (LMS) championship, taking outright victories in the gruelling 1,000km races at Spa-Francorchamps and the Nürburgring. It also achieved success in the 2005 American Le Mans Series (ALMS), taking an outright win at Laguna Seca and smashing the track’s lap record by over 1.7 seconds.

In 2006 the latest version of the ZG348 was fitted in an LMP2 customer prototype, with podium finishes throughout the season, and second in class at Le Mans.

A new version of this engine has been introduced for the 2008 season, which incorporates some significant changes. These will offer an increase in torque and power and reductions in both friction and overall weight.

With the Z Series, Zytek can deliver tailored engines quickly and cost-effectively using proven modular technologies.
