John Surtees OBE, the world's only driver to become a world champion on two wheels AND four, is set to create another world first next week - when he becomes the first person ever to drive a sports car the full length of the world famous Eurotunnel.
1964 Formula One victor John Surtees will be traversing the 31 mile route on Tuesday 17th November, as part of the 37th annual Burlington Beaujolais Run.
His chariot for this auspicious occasion will be the ground-breaking Ginetta G50EV - a stunning electric sports car prototype made by British car marque Ginetta, which was recently described by Auto Car as having 'so much obvious potential'.
Starting off at the Channel Tunnel's UK entrance in Folkestone, Kent, Mr Surtees will drive through Eurotunnel emerging in France at around 1.30pm local time. Eurotunnel, which offers the greenest way to cross the channel, has arranged a reception to receive the star as he emerges in Coquelles -all in celebration of low carbon travel.
Lawrence Tomlinson, Ginetta Chairman said: "I am honoured that an icon of John's stature is setting this world first with Ginetta. Ginetta is very proud to have an electric sports car prototype of this ilk, and it seems fitting that the Ginetta G50EV should be heading into the history books with a motorsport legend such as John at its wheel."
