The GulfSport run Ginetta G50HC finished 29 seconds ahead of an Aston Martin GT4 to win the GTB class of the UAE GT Championship last weekend at the Dubai Autodrome.

It was GulfSport's founder and Technical Director, Martin Hope who had managed to put the car on pole by just three hundredths of a second ahead of the previous race winning Porsche GT3, who took the first stint in the car. Hope was out-dragged by the GT3 from the rolling start, and so had to settle for second place as the Porsche would always pull a gap down the two long straights of the 4.3kms circuit but then get caught in the turns by the superior handling and braking of the Ginetta. At the halfway point, Hope pitted the car for former Speedcar racer and team mate Eric Charles to pick up the challenge. Charles nevertheless found himself in exactly the same situation looking at the back of the annoyingly quick and very well driven GT3.

But the smile on the face of GulfSport Chief Engineer Gary Francis said it all as a message came over the radio from Charles that had he taken the lead as the Porsche coasted to a halt having run out of fuel. The good news was the Ginetta took the win and the even better news was that the Porsche would be a bit heavier the next time we meet on December 4th.
