Josh Hill wrapped up the Ginetta Junior Winter Championship at Rockingham at the weekend (below) - 8th November 2008 - in the final race of the four-round series and rounding off his final Ginetta Junior race with another first place finish.

A dice with Dominic Pettit at the head of the first encounter sent them both wide at Tarzan allowing Sarah Moore past and en route to her first win and becoming the first female racer to take a Ginetta Junior victory.

A first and a third at Snetterton were backed up with a second place and another win for Josh Hill who headed Sarah Moore in the table by 11 points at the end. Sarah’s podium consistency throughout the event - taking a trophy at every round along with Josh Hill - signified a marked improvement in the young racer who also set race fastest laps on occasions on the damp Rockingham track.

Newcomer Jake Hill - the son of ITV commentator and driver Simon Hill - completed a sterling drive in the first of the races at the weekend to come home third in just his third ever car race! The 14-year-old is hoping to return to the Championship full-time in 2009.

Alex Austin also scored his first win at Snetterton yet didn’t quite make it onto the podium at Rockingham, but secured third place in the Winter Series.

The Ginetta Junior paddock also bid farewell to Dominic Pettit at the weekend - after three season’s racing in the category. The Cambridge-based driver capped off his final race with a podium finish in third.

After wrapping up the title, a very pleased Josh Hill said “I have definitely exceeded my expectations. This first year of racing was supposed to be like dipping my toe in the water but ended up coming third in the Championship and winning the winter series!”

“It feels like I have been here for longer than a year - I was mid-pack at the beginning and now I’m running at the front regularly which is good.”

Speaking of his time in running in the Ginetta Championship, Josh Hill added “Ginetta Junior racing has taught me that racecraft in cars is very different to karting - I don’t know what it’s going to be like in single-seaters - but I’ve also learned a lot about car setup - especially during the Winter Series.”

“Mike and everybody at Tollbar racing team have been great - to get four front-running cars is pretty impressive - and thanks to everyone at Ginetta for their support too.”

Rockingham marks the conclusion of Ginetta Championship racing for 2008. The first race action of 2009 is currently 4th and 5th April at Brands Hatch when the Ginetta Junior Championship and the Ginetta G50 Championship will be out supporting the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship.

Meanwhile, Ginetta will be at Autosport International at Birmingham NEC from January 8th-11th so please feel free to visit us on stand number 19760 - just near the Autosport Main Stage.
